Absorbent Mats NZ
When spills happen, having absorbent pads and mats on hand makes all the difference between a quick cleanup and a costly accident.
Complete your emergency preparations with a fuel spill kit and keep your workplace safe and compliant with our collection of quality absorbent mats in NZ below.
We’ve Got the Right Absorbent Pads for Every Spill
Our absorbent pads are made from 100% polypropylene—an inert, stable material that won't react with the liquids it absorbs. This makes them a safe, reliable option for containing almost any chemical spill. We stock three colour-coded types designed for specific liquid hazards.
Oil and Fuel Absorbent Pads (White)
These hydrophobic pads absorb petroleum-based liquids, such as petrol, diesel, hydraulic oil, and other hydrocarbons, while repelling water. Our fuel absorbent pads are ideal for workshops, transport depots, marinas, and anywhere oil spills might occur near water. The white colour makes it easy to see when pads are saturated and need replacing.
For ongoing drip protection, pair your pads with a spill containment deck under drums and machinery.
Universal Absorbent Pads (Grey)
Also known as general-purpose or maintenance pads, universal absorbent pads can handle most workplace liquids, including oils, coolants, solvents, and water-based fluids.
They're the practical all-rounder for manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and general maintenance areas where you're dealing with multiple fluid types. For containing spills around larger areas, combine pads with absorbent socks to create a barrier and prevent spread.
Chemical Absorbent Pads (Yellow)
Specially treated to withstand aggressive chemicals, these pads won't break down when absorbing acids, alkalis, and corrosive substances—including concentrated sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide.
Chemical absorbent pads are essential for laboratories, battery rooms, and any facility handling hazardous chemicals. We recommend using chemical spill trays to provide secondary containment where corrosive substances are stored or decanted.
Absorbent Rolls and Mats
For larger coverage areas or ongoing drip management, our perforated absorbent rolls can be torn to size and placed under machinery, along workbenches, or anywhere continuous protection is needed.
Available in oil-only (40cm and 80cm widths) and universal variants, with up to 50 metres per roll.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between lightweight and heavyweight pads?
Lightweight oil pads (200gsm) are suitable for minor drips and routine maintenance, while heavyweight pads (400gsm) offer greater absorbency for larger spills.
Can I use universal absorbent pads for chemical spills?
In certain cases. For mild chemicals, coolants, and solvents, universal pads work well. However, for aggressive acids, bases, or unknown substances, always use yellow chemical absorbent pads, as they’re treated to maintain structural integrity with corrosive liquids.
How do I dispose of used absorbent pads?
For pads used to clean up minor oil or coolant spills only, check with your local council, as some transfer stations accept small quantities of oil-contaminated materials.
Pads contaminated with hazardous substances (flammable liquids, corrosives, toxic chemicals) must be treated as hazardous waste. Classify the waste based on what was absorbed and contact a licensed hazardous waste contractor for collection and disposal.
Store used pads in sealed, leak-proof containers away from ignition sources while awaiting collection.
